Humble Beginnings
I was born in November of 1981 in Lafayette, Indiana. After spending
the first two years of life on a farm in the middle of nowhere, my
parents decided to make the big move back to civilization, and I found
myself at a more civilized farm near Kokomo, Indiana.
I began my education at Northwestern Elementary at the tender age of
five or so, and stayed within Northwestern
School Corporation for the remainder of my primary and secondary education.
While I was at Northwestern, I had several fabulous English teachers who
instilled in me a love of reading and writing. While I was in high school
I was involved with several activities, including drama club, marching
and concert bands, academic competition (in English, naturally), newspaper
publications, and National Honor Society. While I was in high school,
I was honored with a position at the local newspaper, The
Kokomo Tribune, as a student reporter/editor. It was the first job
I ever had, and it helped me decide how I wanted to spend the rest of
my working career.
Becoming a Boilermaker
After graduating high school in June of 2000 I began my college career
at Purdue University
in West Lafayette, Indiana. I always knew I would end up at Purdue
for college; it's something of a family tradition...we all bleed black
and gold. I started out studying Communication, but before my third
year I switched to Professional Writing, which deals with editing,
publishing, document creation, and technical writing. To see some
samples of my work in each of these realms, check out my portfolio.
When I wasn't in class or working on projects, I was rehearsing or peforming
as a member of the Purduettes, a part of Purdue
Musical Organizations. The Purduettes
are an all female singing group that acts as ambassadors for Purdue. The
Purduettes perform for alumni, prospective students, donors, and anyone
else who will listen. In my four years with the group, we performed in
Florida, Tennessee, Kentucky, Ohio, South Carolina, and Chicago as well
as for different events around campus and around the state of Indiana.
After Graduation
I graduated from Purdue with my degree in Professional Writing in
May of 2004. June through August of 2004 I participated in an internship
with American InterContinental University
in London, England (a dream come true!). I worked for www.unstrung.com,
an online magazine that delivers the latest news in wireless technology.
I learned more in my three months abroad than I can possibly convey,
and I would recommend the AIU London experience to anyone.
When I got back from London, I had a full time position waiting for me
in Purdue Research Park with MED
Institute, Inc. MED is a part of the Cook
Group, a company that designs, tests, and manufactures internal biomedical
devices, such as stents and filters. With MED, I worked with the IT Department
to develop software documentation, from design to delivery, and I even
helped the programmers with testing the applications, too!
August 13, 2005, I married my college sweetheart of five years, Kent
Campbell, another Purdue student and fellow PMO member. We were married
in Orlando, Florida at the Disney Boardwalk Hotel. Since then, the
two of us have lived happily in West Lafayette while he finishes up
his Mechanical Engineering degree. He will start working for Motorola
in February of 2006 in Libertyville, Illinois, north of Chicago; thus,
alas, I must leave my current position in Purdue Research Park and
seek my fortune in the Chicagoland area.
